The partnership of MSU-IIT College of Education and Google Educator Group Iligan hosted this year’s EdTech Day on February 25, 2015 at the MSU-IIT CED Amphitheater, Iligan City. This year’s theme was “Designing Tools for Learning” and the event was filled with project exhibits, EdTech talks and EdTech discussion with the participants.
The event was attended by more than 350 pre-service and in-service teachers all over Iligan City.
The first speaker for the event was Mr. Carlos B. Llamas, a teacher of Tambo Central School. Carlos talked about utilization and indexing of instructional materials. He also talked about the emergence of divergent thinkers and how the use of technology in the classroom can nurture these kind of students.
The second speaker was Ms. Evelyn R. Manahan, a teacher from Iligan City High School. She talked about her experiences in the implementation of an ICT-enhanced lesson.
The third speakers were Prof. Amelia T. Buan and Prof. Rhea D. Febro, both teachers from MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology. They discussed about the need to move towards mobile learning and the different Google Apps for Education. Their talk was followed by a panel discussion wherein students asked the first four speakers about the issues in the use of technology in the classroom.
The fourth speaker was Prof. Charity Mulig of the Integrated Developmental School. Charity used Google Hangouts to discuss Doctopus and Goobric.
I was the fifth speaker and I talked about the topic closest to my heart- Principles of Design.
Events such as the EdTech Day show how much we value innovation in the classroom. I hope that EdTech Day will grow in number of participants next year and that we can invite more speakers.
